أظهرت دراسة حكومية أن إقبال المواطنين اليابانيين على حضور أفلام هوليود تراجع من نحو 80% طوال العقود الأربعة الماضية, إلى أقل من 35% في العامين الماضيين. ويعزو الخبراء هذا الوضع إلى تبدل مزاج اليابانيين وازدياد اهتمامهم بثقافاتهم التقليدية وأوضاعهم الداخلية.
ويشارك أبطال هوليود في المهرجانات السينمائية حول العالم ليحتفلوا في معظم الأحيان بفوزهم بالمراكز الأولى، ولكن الأمر يختلف حينما يأتون إلى طوكيو.
وقد بدأ اليابانيون يغيرون مشهد البطولة في دور السينما. وقال شاب ياباني إن الأفلام اليابانية أصبحت في الآونة الأخيرة أكثر متعة، كما أنها تنطلق من مقومات ثقافتنا وعاداتنا ولذلك تحظى بإقبال متزايد.
وقالت مشترية أفلام من هونغ كونغ "ستكون هناك دائما أسواق مفتوحة أمام الأفلام اليابانية وإذا أنفق المنتجون مزيداً من المال فسيتمكنون من استئجار ممثلين مشهورين واجتذاب مزيد من المشاهدين العالميين".
من جهته قال ناقد سينمائي ياباني "كان المشاهدون اليابانيون يؤخذون بقصص الآكشن والعنف التي سوقتها هوليود طوال عقود، ولكنهم ملوا من تلك الدراما، ويريدون الآن أن يشاهدوا أفلاما تعبر عن الحياة الحقيقية العادية".
والإقبال الذي تحظى به الأفلام اليابانية لم يعد يقتصر على اليابان، فقد أصبحت منافسا شديدا لأفلام هوليود في معظم الأسواق الآسيوية.
